Sam Hime
I was disabled in the nineteen nineties, when I was in my
thirties, am too lazy to physically work, and too nervous
to steal, so I figured to try my hand at writing. I had a
few tales published in a couple of online journals, which
was encouraging, so I reckon I'll keep trying

LOOKING FOR GOD
Raymon was a cat enthusiast. He brought a female from
Dalice. It had a bad habit. It would briefly watch an
LP record turn, then leap onto it, and scratch the vinyl
so badly it would from then on make a staccato crackling
like popping corn. >>>

SIZE BRIDGE
It
was kind of eerie down by the river. Luckily for Edwin,
there was enough moonlight so when he removed the gas
cap from the pump, he could see it was bone dry. While
he was bent over looking, a crashing on the far bank
caused him to freeze. The far bank was covered with
brush, and it sounded like King Kong was walking through
it. Edwin's blood froze.>>>

PARATERROR
In the early times of the sport, a participant was hitched
up in a harness with a parachute on its rear, and a
link in front. A motorboat with a nylon towline behind
it pulled parallel to the coastline just offshore. A
swimmer went in, got the rope, brought it back, and
hooked it onto the connection. A mob of local boys held
the chute aloft, and allowed the breeze to catch it.
When the wind billowed the parasol, and the line was
taut, the head man waved his arm overhead. The boat
driver gunned the throttle, and took off. The parachuter
walked a few steps, and went airborne.>>>

ANGLISH
The reaction Americans typically had when they heard
any language other than their own spoken was remarkable.
The majority of the Yanks were sure they were being
talked about. Herman said the Mexican’s conversation
sounded like “blackbirds in a Chinaberry Tree.” >>>

THE SMUGGY
FACE
Doctor Ruff thought perhaps he should retire,
he was past the age when most doctors did.
It crossed his mind that he possibly should have
let one of the younger doctors work on this young woman.
He'd done a tubal litigation on her after he'd
taken her second son, but it had failed.>>>

MINDSET
Spiro sat in the pharmacy of The Dalice Veteran's Hospital.
A video screen hung from the ceiling and displayed rows
of names in alphabetical order. The man he'd given
his prescriptions to had told him it'd be "about
45 minutes. You'll know they're ready when ye' see
yer' name on the TV".>>>

PREFIXES
Every part of my body objects to this ritual of getting
up and working philosophy, even the cat gives me a smug
look as I turn off the alarm. Through my crusty eyes,
I can see the curtains are open, I never close them
as no peeping tom could ever make it through the jungle
that is our garden to perve on me, at least not without
a flame thrower! >>>

180
During the year of roughnecking, I went through a set
of tires driving from Albany to Dallas. When cruising,
I had a belt looped around my right thigh. Third gear
never stayed in more than 5 minutes unless the belt
was draped over it, with the weight of my leg holding
it in. It had to be adjusted perfectly... too loose
and the pickup would pop out of gear. If it was too
tight, the leg would get numb. >>>

HAY SIN GLAD DEN FREE
The campus covered a couple of square miles, a paved
road around the dormitories was right at a mile. In
the center of the campus was a tarnished, bronze statue
of the founder Richard D Beckham and a flagpole. Beckham
was a charitable carpetbagger who came to Dixie after
the American Civil War and bought hundreds of acres
for pennies apiece.>>>

DIVINA
The boss took a 16 gauge, pump shotgun loaded with birdshot
outside and fired thrice into the tree. It rained black
birds. Most only had a couple pellets in them. They
couldn't fly, but could, and did run. The boss had four
bird dogs. They wore themselves to a frazzle chasing
after the birds. No sooner had they caught one, than
they'd turn it loose, and run after another. >>>

BIG TENT
My kids and I decided to go camping one holiday weekend.
We borrowed a tent and left Dallas on Thursday when
I got off work. We went to a state park and got out
the canvas. It was the kids' grandfather's, and hadn't
been used in years. It was a massive roll of fabric
studded with nylon loops for the posts. Inside was an
enormous bundle of poles. The only thing we knew was
where the bottom was. It’s exterior was overlain with
plastic for waterproofing. >>>

NEPHILIM
Easy Keel had been held captive in Upper Chaldea for
30 years, 4 months, and 5 days. His captivity was like
house arrest; his captors granted him relative independence,
though escape was out of the question.>>>
