My Earliest MemoryI was in the kitchen sitting in a highchair, so couldn't have been much older than two. The walls were blue, and the old-style dial telephone was mounted on the wall next to me, with its extra long cord dangling down to the floor. I don't remember the season, but it was bright and sunny outside. My mother was carrying bags of groceries in from the car, placing them on the kitchen table. My sister, 4 years older than I, was taking the groceries out of the bags. She stopped, examined a jar closely, and with a disgusted expression said, "Eww, you're gonna feed him that?" © Jonathan Bryce 2001 |
